What is Chess on Vaults.lol
Chess is the Vaults two player chess game. Play a friend in a private room on a 3D board, with real rules, a two minute move timer and verified XP.
What Chess is
Chess is one of the free games inside Vaults Games, at vaults.lol/dashboard/games. It is a proper two player game of chess on a full 3D board: you sit at one side, your opponent sits across from you, and every piece moves and captures the way real chess pieces do.
Chess on Vaults is one versus one only. Every match is against another person, never against a computer.
Starting a match
Chess is played in private rooms. Press Create room and you get a short room code. Send that code to a friend, and they join from the Chess start screen by entering it.
Once you are both in the room, you each ready up, and the host starts the match. Colors are random every game, so you never know if you will be white or black until the match begins. Each player sees the board from their own side of the table.
How to play
Click or drag a piece to move it. You can only move your own pieces, and only on your turn.
The game follows real chess rules. Castling, en passant captures, pawn promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate and draws all work the way they are supposed to. Illegal moves are simply not allowed.
The two minute move timer
Every move has a two minute limit. If the timer runs out, your turn passes to your opponent, so the game never stalls on one player.
If you are in check when your timer runs out, you lose the match instead, because a passed turn would leave your king captured. You can also resign at any point if you would rather end the game early.
Every move is checked on the server
Moves are validated on the server, not in your browser. The rules engine on our side decides which moves are legal, when a player is in check, and when the game is over, so the match state cannot be faked by a modified client.
XP and progression
Online matches pay XP into the same pool as every other Vaults game. A win earns 80 XP plus 4 XP per minute the game lasted, up to 180. A loss earns 25 XP plus 2 XP per minute, up to 65, and a draw earns up to 70.
Longer games pay more, so winning with a quick checkmate is worth far less than winning a long, hard fought match. Games under three minutes or with fewer than ten moves pay nothing, which keeps XP farming from being worth your time.
Chess XP counts toward the daily cap shared with the other games, so your level, rank and badges all grow from the same progression pool.
