How to use markdown in your Discord bio

Discord's About Me supports a small set of markdown tricks. Here is what works, what does not, and how to make your bio readable.

What markdown works in About Me

Discord's About Me field supports a limited slice of markdown. You can use asterisks for bold and italics, underscores for italics and underline, double tildes for strikethrough, and single or triple backticks for code styling. Headers and some block formatting also render in the bio on current clients.

Support has shifted over the years and can differ between the desktop app, mobile app and web version, so always check how your bio looks on a phone after editing it.

What does not work

Clickable masked links, the [label](url) syntax, do not render as tappable links in About Me. URLs you paste stay as plain text that visitors have to copy by hand. Colored text and custom fonts are not possible either. Anything promising those is either outdated or wrong.

Formatting that reads well

Use bold for your name or the 1 line you want people to remember, and keep the rest plain. A divider made of a few symbols on its own line can separate sections, but more than 1 or 2 dividers starts to look cluttered on mobile.

Put your link on the last line by itself. Since it is not clickable, making it short and easy to copy matters more than dressing it up.
